Havening

Havening is a gentle psychosensory therapy that combines soothing touch with guided techniques to help the brain safely process distressing memories and emotional responses. By calming the nervous system and reducing emotional activation, Havening can help lessen anxiety, trauma responses, phobias and stress while building resilience and emotional wellbeing. Many people find it both deeply calming and empowering.

A safe haven for body and mind

The name comes from creating a safe haven in both the body and mind — a space of calm where healing can take place. Havening was created by Dr. Ronald Ruden in the early 2000s, drawing on neuroscience research into how the brain encodes distressing experiences.

How it works

Soothing touch is applied to the arms, hands, or face to generate delta brain waves — the same slow-wave patterns that occur naturally during deep, restorative sleep. This helps unhook the emotional charge from distressing memories.
